Literature Text

Is it injustice,
for a child to be accused
of a wrong doing
and then killed?

Is it injustice,
to say that predators
kill all the prey
but then are murdered instead?

Is it injustice,
to have people
living in a free world
while others are in slavery?

Is it injustice,
to be treated differently
because of the color
and the look of your skin?

Is it injustice,
to look upon a child
with a mental disorder
and say there is no hope?

Is it injustice,
to have a weapon
and carry it about to protect
when several use it to destroy?

Is it injustice,
that we have to define
our rights, while standing
against others?

Is it injustice,
for homeless people
to be treated like trash
just because they are...

...not like us?

What is us?
Are we injustice ourselves?
Or are we fighters,
givers, bringers?

What is justice?
Are we justice?
Or does justice
abandon us...
leave us...
...to our own decisions?

Our decisions define us,
they break us in.
And with all my heart,
I say again.
In all justice,
pray for injustice's end.
....

Justice essentially boils down to exactly that: "Just Us".

Only "Us" can determine for ourselves whether something is just or not, and act accordingly to those opinions. Some issues, like slavery especially several hundred years ago in the United States, clearly became a contested issue and in the end, Abraham Lincoln made history by freeing those slaves (At least that's what I believe at this point in time). Other areas, maybe artistic nudity and graffiti, can definitely have some sort of grey area: Some will love it, some will absolutely loathe it. And then other issues, like whether children as young as a year old should be allowed into beauty salons to get "treatments", are where most people with a brain and a sense of decency would just recoil in disgust.

Do what you believe is right; in your heart and in your head. That is the concept of justice then and there, I believe. Of course, when new information or new studies come to light, my opinions may be subject to change.

As for the poem, it's excellently written and makes us ask ourselves those burning questions about what we consider to be just and unjust, citing great examples along the way. Great work, and hope to see more like this... You may very soon have a watcher if you keep this up. =)
